The Pre-seen
What do you need to do with the pre-seen?
Here is the suggested approach for you to analyse the pre-seen
(1) Set up a proforma SWOT analysis, PEST analysis, Porter's 5 forces schedule and Mendelow's matrix
(2) Read the pre-seen through paragraph by paragraph
(3) At the end of each paragraph note down points of relevence into your proformas
(4) At the financial section you will need to do a range of calculations including ratio analysis (e.g. liquidity ratios, debtors days and so on) and company valuations
(5) Share your ideas with others (use www.casestudyaide.com if you do not have any other ideas)
(6) Complete a neat, final version of your analysis schedules
(7) Consider possible strategic options and analyse the advantages and disadvantages of each of these. Be clear where each lies on Ansoff's matrix.
Industry analysis
You'll also need to do an industry analysis of the case.
Most of your research can be done online, and again its vital that you share information with others (again use www.casestudyaide.com if you do not have any friends or colleagues to share information with).
Sources of information:
(1) Companies in this industry - websites, financial statements, adverts
(2) General web search
(3) Industry magazines
(4) You might buy a pre-done analysis.
It is good if you can get good broad information to help add to your PEST and 5 forces analysis, but THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION to obtain are industry examples of real companies and strategies that they have followed. In the exam you must aim to include 5 of these for your 5 diversity marks.
